ISIS militants have released a video that shows a very cute, sweet looking boy who doesn't even seem to be in his teenage years. This#NanhaMujahid (child terrorist) proceeds to blow a man's head off with a revolver, and then exults, shouting religious and terrorist slogans. This follows news that they are actively recruiting teenaged women for sexual grooming and to be jihadi brides, and just a few months ago there was a news.item that stated an eight or nine-year old girl was used to blow up a shopping market.
I am not sure what to make of such news - should I -
1. Feel sad for the loss of the innocent childhood these children could have had?
2. Feel outraged that their ideology teachers think it is okay to debase childhood in this way?
3. Feel helpless that their propaganda is so chillingly effective?
There are many movies such as Hanna and Kick-Ass that show us "the human side" of these monsters, and that aim to specify that these children are not BORN monsters, but are MADE monsters by selfish adults. The same logic that could be applied to the minor-rapist monster in the Nirbhaya case.
I would still hesitate if I were asked to judge the punishment these children would receive at the hands of a democratic system.
I'm confused. What would you do?
